This led to the formation of dimensionless groups for each of the relevant variables that include dimensionless fire rate of spread and dimensionless size of the fuel particle and moisture content and dimensionless depth of the fuel bed or fuel loading density, and dimensionless wind speed and angle of inclination. Dimensionless correlations made using the groups that were created correlated the rate of spread of fire in wind and non-wind conditions quite reliably. It is important to note that these correlatives in the dimensionless were based on only experimental data which only covered a small range of natural fuel types that are found in wildland regions.
